31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10:31
Not every goal is one that God will help you with!! If you set up goals with the end result being to bring yourself glory you may find yourself struggling mightily. It’s important to set up a goal that God will bless. I myself have found huge trials and struggles when I set up a goal that is my will, call it God’s will, and then proceed to attempt to reach it on my own strength. Let me tell you......IT JUST DOESN”T WORK!! So what kind of goal will God bless?
1) Godly goals bring glory to God.
So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.
2 Corinthians 5:9 (NIV)
A godly goal will make us love Jesus more, be more grateful to God, serve God, make us m be drawn to Him, and make us want to brag about God
2) Godly goals are motivated by love.
Do everything in love.
1 Corinthians 16:14 (NIV)
This love must be for God and for other people
No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
1 John 4:12 (NIV)
Follow the way of love
1 Corinthians 14:1 (NIV)
3) Godly goals fulfill one of God’s purposes.
In Rick Warren’s book “The Purpose Driven Life” the author points out that God’s purposes are:
*We were planned for God’s Pleasure (Worship)
*We were formed for God’s Family (Fellowship)
*We were created to become like Jesus (Discipleship)
*We were shaped for serving God (Ministry)
*We were made for a Mission (Mission)
God’s purposes are eternal. If your goals aren’t focused through an eternal mindset then maybe they aren’t godly goals.
4) Godly goals are set in faith.
See last weeks blog ☺
5) Godly goals are achieved with God’s power.
These are so big that you can’t do it without Him and His power.
In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the LORD establishes their steps.
Proverbs 16:9
‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.
Zechariah 4:6
So far this year we have looked at faith and how it is manifested in our lives through obedience and trust in the Lord. We have also looked at setting our perspective up using this obedient and trustworthy faith as well as setting up new goals for ourselves that God will honor and bless because it brings glory to Him.
Faith is important as we can see in Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
If we are obedient and trust Him, if we build strong goals based on our faith in Him we can change in 2011! Our lives can change, our relationships can change, and we can change others. We can be the salt and light that Jesus talked about in the Sermon on the Mount.
Next week we will look at Romans 12 and just how we can make 2011 a year of change that will bring glory to God.
May God bless you this week and keep you safe.
